112 works too. On mobile networks it is routed to local emergency services almost everywhere in the world, from a locked handset with no SIM card in it. If nothing else on this page reaches anyone, dial 112.

What to know before you call
- · 1155 is the number to save before you fly. The Tourist Police answer in English and stay on the line while they bring in an ambulance or the local police, which is the part 191 cannot do for you.
- · 1669 is a medical dispatch line, not a hospital switchboard. Give the location first, then what has happened.
- · In Bangkok traffic, a motorcycle first responder often arrives well before the ambulance. Let them work.
Say your location first
Give where you are before you describe what has happened. A call can drop; an address already spoken still gets help moving. Read the town, then the street or the landmark, then the building. If you have coordinates on your phone, read those out — they work regardless of language.

Questions
- What is the emergency number in Thailand?
- 191 for police, 199 for fire and rescue, and 1669 for an ambulance. Visitors should also save 1155, the Tourist Police, who answer in English 24 hours a day.
- Does 911 work in Thailand?
- No. Thailand does not use 911. Dialling 112 from a mobile will route you to local emergency services on most networks, but the numbers to use are 191, 199 and 1669.
- Do Thai emergency operators speak English?
- Not reliably on 191 or 1669. The Tourist Police on 1155 do, and they can interpret for the other services, which is why it is the number worth calling first.
- Is calling an ambulance in Thailand free?
- The call is free from any phone. The treatment and the transport are not — foreign visitors are billed, which is what travel insurance is for.
